I visited the Izumo Hinomisaki Lighthouse in Shimane Prefecture in late March.
The lighthouse, established in 1903, is a white stone Western-style lighthouse. In 2022, it was designated as an important cultural property of Japan. The height from the ground is 43.65 meters (47.7 yards) and the height from the sea level is 63.3 meters (69.2 yards), making it the tallest stone lighthouse in Japan.
As of March 2024, the interior of the lighthouse is open to the public, and visitors can tour it for 300 yen per adult. Inside the lighthouse, there are steep spiral staircases with 163 steps, and after climbing them, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Sea of Japan from the observation deck.
